Lahore District, Punjab, Pakistan (January 7, 2026) — The Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) announced that Dr. Ameeq Farooq, Assistant Professor at the University of the Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan, has been named a 2026–2027 AMPP Global Ambassador. Dr. Farooq began his ambassador term on January 1, 2026.
The AMPP Ambassador Program is designed to expand global awareness of AMPP’s mission and its role in advancing corrosion prevention and asset protection worldwide. Ambassadors serve as trusted advocates for the association by amplifying AMPP messages through outreach, storytelling, and social media engagement. “This program is about people who live the work every day—professionals who understand the real-world impact of corrosion prevention and are willing to share that knowledge globally,” said Jennifer Kramer, APR, Senior Manager of Public Relations at AMPP. “Our ambassadors strengthen the AMPP brand by telling authentic stories, extending our reach into new regions, and helping amplify why AMPP’s work matters to the future of this industry.” Dr. Farooq leads the Corrosion Control Research Cell at the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at the University of the Punjab. With more than 15 years of professional experience, his work spans academia, industry collaboration, and applied research in corrosion engineering, coatings, cathodic protection, electrochemistry, nanomaterials, and surface modification. Dr. Farooq has led and contributed to multiple industry-funded projects, including the successful execution of a national initiative on mitigating internal corrosion of steel pipelines caused by CO₂, H₂S, and bacteria in collaboration with Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited. For his service to the corrosion community, he received the NACE International Distinguished Service Award in 2021. An AMPP member since 2016, Dr. Farooq has served in several leadership roles, including Section Membership Activity Chair, Section Secretary, and currently Vice Chair. Through his long-standing engagement with AMPP and strong connections across academia and industry, he is uniquely positioned to bridge theory and practice. As an AMPP Ambassador, he is committed to advancing education, certification, and professional development to strengthen corrosion control capabilities across Pakistan and the region.
