PU Radio FM 104.6 celebrates 23rd anniversary


LAHORE: (Thursday, June 05, 2025): Punjab University School of Communication Studies Radio FM 104.6 has organized a cake cutting ceremony to celebrate its 23rd anniversary. On this occasion, former PU VC Lt. General (r) Arshad Mahmood, Director School of Communication Studies Prof Dr Abida Ashraf, Chairperson Department of Communication and Media Research Prof Dr Nosheena Saleem, Chairperson Film and Broadcasting Prof Dr Lubna Zaheer, Coordinator Radio Dr Akram Soomro, Program Manager Muhammad Irshad Chaudhry, faculty members and students were present. Addressing the ceremony, Lt. General (r) Arshad Mahmood said that 23 years ago, as Vice Chancellor, I started radio in the Department of Communication to enhance the mental capacity of students and provide practical training. He said that during the earthquake in Muzaffarabad-Kashmir in October 2005, the students and teachers of the department proved positive journalism by reporting live in the devastated areas. He said that the services of radio in Muzaffarabad were appreciated not only at the national but also at the international level. He said that by getting training from radio, students can not only make the institution but also Pakistan's name famous all over the world. He advised the young students to use social media platforms in a positive way and prove that they are civilized citizens. He said that promoting a culture of respect for each other’s opinions, patience and tolerance is the need of the hour. Prof Dr Abida Ashraf thanked Lt. General (r) Arshad Mahmood, who helped provide a platform for practical training to the students. He said that most of the students who received training from PU Radio are serving in the national and foreign media. He said that in the present era, radio has taken the form of podcasts, which requires awareness of modern technology to benefit from. Later, Lt. General (r) Arshad Mahmood and others cut the cake to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of PU Radio FM 104.6.
