Lecture on Baluchistan – Hostile and Competing Interests of Neighbours/ Region; Battlefield of Proxies


Prof. Dr. Umbreen Javaid, Director, Centre for South Asian Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore organized a Lecture on 12 May, 2022 (Thursday) at 11:00 a.m. on “Baluchistan – Hostile and Competing Interests of Neighbours/ Region; Battlefield of Proxies”. Dr. Rehana Saeed Hashmi, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, University of the Punjab, Lahore was the guest speaker.
     
The guest speaker provided with in-depth introduction of Baluchistan and its geo-political importance, as a subject to International Politics. Moreover, she discussed in detail the strategic significance of Baluchistan and Gwadar Port in relevance to major and regional players like China, Russia, India and United States. The involvement and interest of China in Baluchistan had contributed in other powers strategic concerns. It unveiled some external and internal competing interests within the region, which are challenging the state writ and security in Baluchistan.
Faculty members, M.Phil./Ph.D. scholars of the Centre for South Asian Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore attended the lecture in which research scholars and the students participated actively.
